I have been teaching in the public schools for twenty years and have heard many presentations. I recently had the privilege of attending a presentation given by Richard Barnes at East Bridgewater Junior/ Senior High School. As Rich spoke about his personal struggles with drugs and alcohol, I was amazed by his courage and honesty. I sat in the auditorium with tears in my eyes, captivated by his words.
The effect Rich’s words had on both students and adults in that audience was electrifying; listeners leaned forward, rapt, as they heard Rich speak about his lonely journey in his battle to defeat his personal demons. Defeat them he did, and throughout Rich’s passionate and eloquent personal story, his gentle heart shone through.
At the end of his presentation, students felt extremely comfortable asking Rich questions. I was particularly moved when I saw a student give Rich a spontaneous hug, moved by the power of his message.
Mr. Barnes is an inspirational and powerful speaker. It is clear he wants to share his story so that others may avoid the pain he has survived. I highly recommend Richard Barnes’ presentation.
